Unfortunately, not much is known about the history of this drink, although there are theories. We do know that the drink originated in the Bahamas.
Get Everything You Need
Everything you need to make these Margaritas are linked below!
- Malibu Rum
- Triple Sec
- Tequila
- Margarita Mix – I used the light low-calorie mixers from Kroger but any classic margarita mix will do here. Jose Cuervo is always a good choice!
- Pineapple Juice
- Grenadine
- Coconut Cream (optional)
Tips & Tricks To Master This Drink
A chilled cocktail always hits the spot for me. The best way to get a refreshingly cold cocktail is to start with a chilled glass. It prevents the drink from becoming watered down too quickly and tastes more refreshing this way. I’ve found chilling your glasses in the freezer for a few minutes followed by filling them with ice is the best way to go.
A few other quick tips I have on these Bahama Mamas –
- If rimming the glass, do this after chilling the glasses and before straining the drink into the glass. You can use a salted rim if you prefer a classic Margarita vibe or you can continue down the tropical path with a coconut flake rim. To do this, dip your rim in coconut cream followed by the coconut flakes.
- If you aren’t the biggest coconut fan, you can go without the coconut cream shaken in.
- To garnish, you can use berries, pineapple, maraschino cherries, pineapple leaves, or whatever you may have on hand
