Can I hire you as my party planner?
As of right now, the short answer is no. If I happen to receive an overwhelming number of requests to offer a one-on-one party planning service, there’s a high probability that I will offer it in the future. In the meantime, I would love to chat with you about any parties or events you are getting ready to host. Send me a message and we can set up a time to talk about your party ideas, offer my recommendations, and answer any questions you may have, at no cost!
What is the difference between a special occasion, a social gathering, and a get together?
First, let me tell you the secret behind these terms…they’re all considered PARTIES. But wait, what’s a party? A party is a group of people gathered for a special purpose or task that typically includes the presence of food, drinks, entertainment, and socialization.
All three of these terms can be given the more simple term “party” instead. For instance, if you wanted to call the happy hour with your close friends a “party” instead of a “get together,” by all means go for it! I certainly won’t be stopping you and I highly doubt anyone else will either.
Throughout our site, users may notice that we refer specifically to one type of gathering in one post and another type of gathering in another. To further promote an understanding of these terms, here is our interpretations of the differences between these gatherings:
- Special Occasion: A group of people who are formally invited by a host to gather for a special purpose or task. It can include 10+ guests and even hundreds of guests, depending on what the cause for celebration is. (i.e. – Birthday, Graduation, Engagement, Bridal Shower, Anniversary)
- Social Gathering: This type of gathering is more casual than a special occasion. The sole purpose of this gathering is to promote companionship or fellowship. Social gatherings can include invited and non-invited guests but there is usually no formal “invite” list to begin with. It’s a “feel free to bring a friend along” type of gathering. It typically includes less people than a large special occasion party, ranging from 4-50 participants. (i.e. – Backyard BBQ, Pool Party, Dinner Parties)
- Get Together: This type of gathering is the smallest and most intimate. Just like a social gathering, its only purpose is to bring people together to socialize. This type of gathering is with some of your closest friends and/or family and less with the people you only see on occasion. It only takes 2 participants to make it happen. Around 15 guests is when it caps out. (i.e. – Happy Hour with the girls, Game Night, Bonfires, Dinner Outing with friends)
